The angels rejoiced on Thursday morning when D was able to be neglected throughout the night. I wouldn't say he slept through the night because he did wake up twice, but both times he was passed out soon after waking and didn't have to come snuggle in our bed.
Then an amazing thing happened on Thursday night - he slept through the night! A solid 10 hours without a peep.
Don't get me wrong, I love my kid and sometimes I can't wait for him to wake up so I can snuggle up with him and play or read, but when he wakes over and over throughout the night - he's not a happy guy that wants snuggles or anything other than to scream. And when he joins us in bed, he wants to party. At 3am. Until 5am. Then kicks us until the sound of our alarms go off to get up.
On Wednesday I went to Bed Bath and Beyond and found this white noise machine. I figured it was worth a try since we had been leaving an old phone with a white noise app running all night and it was helping (though not solving) with his sleep issues. And it's worked wonders!
It also plays different noises - three lullabies (Twinkle Twinkle, Rock-a-Bye Baby, Cradle Song), three natural sounds (rain, ocean and heartbeat) and you can adjust the volume from a very soft background noise to loud enough to drown out a rock band in the backyard. There is a sleep timer (15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes) and also an adjuster to make the projector brighter or dimmer. The projector has three disks of different images, to display onto the ceiling or wall above your baby's bed.The projector can be tilted so you don't have to have it near the crib to display it where babes can see.
My theory is that D wakes up still, but before he can let forth his first growl of rage, the pretty pictures on the screen lull him back into slumber. I'm not sure if that's the case, but I love this product regardless. It's helping and I don't care what gypsy magic it may be using!
I am thrilled with this white noise machine. It may have been purchased for D, but it's really for *my* sanity. And at $29.99, you can't go wrong!
