Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas. I love the decorating and festivities leading up to that one big day. And I love giving gifts and watching people unwrap them in curiosity and excitement.
But I also love that moment when we arrive home from dinner at my in-laws and Christmas is finally over.
The stockings had been hung by the chimney with care - and St Nicholas had already been there.
It was 7:30 in the morning and both boys were still sleeping so I woke them up and we got this party started. Once they both got their lazy butts out of bed, we begun the Christmas mayhem!
We emptied stockings, tore open presents and made breakfast as a family. We finally finished D's ornaments that he had to paint for family (Yes, last minute, I know!) and Skyped with Grandma and Grandpa in the Yukon to thank them for his awesome table and chairs that he spent the better part of an hour climbing on and off.
He was spoiled by everyone. We asked people to not give him toys as he has so many already and we had intended on not getting him any but that theory went out the window. We (read : I) wanted to follow the "Something you want, something you need. Something to wear and something to read" gift giving theme but then we (read : I) found a bunch of deals on things in the past week or so and ended up spoiling him.

Our big gift to him was a keyboard. He really loves music and we want to foster that interest as much as we can. He absolutely loves it. He and dad were rocking out this afternoon and D is already learning to push individual notes instead of just banging on the keyboard!
After a long afternoon nap, we loaded up the car with the dog, the kid and gifts and went to my in-laws (which is only a five minute drive away) for dinner with his family.
D was a bit overwhelmed by it all - especially when we were opening presents there (seven-point-five people opening presents and the clutter and paper everywhere is a bit too much for him) and then he started dipping into the turkey while it was being carved.
I felt like we should have CPS called on us for drugging our child - turkey coma set in almost immediately and he actually managed to sit still in his high chair for longer than ten minutes! He was pretty exhausted but scarfed down a good dinner (Thanks Granny!)
It was a great day but the second he was tucked into bed, I felt done with Christmas. If I had effort, the tree and decorations would be packed up tonight. I don't mean to sound like a scrooge, but after all the shopping, decorating, planning, baking and making of crafts for presents, I am so done with Christmas. If Santa showed up on my door with a gift he had forgotten to deliver for me, I would tell him to keep it. Unless it was a winning lottery ticket. Then I could deal with Christmas for another few hours.
Until next year - Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
